Description

Explore the hidden waterways of Bangkok’s klongs or canals by kayak. Take a relaxing paddle to visit old communities and see little-changed side of the rapidly developing city.

Before Bangkok grew into the large cosmopolitan city that can be seen today the majority of people lived alongside the Chao Phraya River and amongst the intricate network of canals, known locally as "khlongs", that fed into the river. These khlongs were the main form of transport and gave the city its nickname: “Venice of the East”. Many of the houses on these khlongs were built on stilts over the water - some of which can still be seen today.

You will have a unique experience of these khlongs with a guided kayaking tour. Starting from a local lotus pond you will travel through the waterways past old communities and temples. You will stop to visit a 200 year old community before continuing your paddle past some of Bangkok's oldest wooden houses. At the end of the tour you will have the opportunity to freshen up and change before enjoying lunch at a local restaurant.
